What Attractions Are There in Jianshui?

Jianshui Confucian Temple

Ticket Price: 60 yuan per person
Opening Hours: 08:30 – 18:00
Address: No. 268 Lin’an Road, Lin’an Town, Jianshui County
It is the second largest Confucian temple in China, second only to the Confucian Temple in Qufu, Shandong. Constructed in the Yuan Dynasty, the complex consists of six successive courtyards, including the Academy Pond, Apricot Altar, Dacheng Hall and Immortal Master Hall. All major buildings extend along a northeast axis with rigorous architectural layouts. Every weekend, free ancient music performances are held in front of the Immortal Master Hall.

Chaoyang Tower

Ticket Price: 5 yuan per person (for tower climbing)
Opening Hours: 09:30 – 17:30
Address: Eastern end of Lin’an Road, Lin’an Town, Jianshui County
The landmark of Jianshui, it was built 28 years earlier than Tiananmen in Beijing. Standing on the top floor, visitors can overlook the entire ancient city of Jianshui through the windows.

Zhu Family Garden

Ticket Price: 50 yuan per person
Opening Hours: 08:00 – 22:00
Address: No. 16 Hanlin Street, Lin’an Town, Jianshui County
This grand mansion was built by two wealthy Zhu brothers in the late Qing Dynasty. Covering over 20,000 square meters, it features gardens, ancestral halls and residential quarters with resplendent and luxurious decor. Intricate wood carvings, couplets and scroll paintings adorn every corner, earning it the reputation of "Grand View Garden of Southern Yunnan".

Swallow Cave

Ticket Price: 80 yuan per person
Opening Hours: 09:00 – 17:00
Address: Miandian Town, Jianshui County
Hailed as "Asia’s No.1 Karst Cave" by Chinese and foreign karst geologists, Swallow Cave is split into a dry cave section and a water cave section. Hundreds of thousands of swiftlets nest in the water cave, yielding abundant edible bird’s nests. Local harvesters climb bare-handed without any safety gear to collect nests, a breathtakingly dangerous practice. Numerous horizontal inscribed boards hang dozens of meters high on the cave ceiling, all mounted by bold, skilled local climbers.

Transportation

Take buses bound for Gejiu, Kaiyuan or Mengzi from the county seat and alight at Swallow Cave stop (10 yuan, 30 minutes). The drop-off point is the Swallow Cave exit of Jishi Expressway, a 2-kilometer dirt road away from the scenic entrance. It takes around 20 minutes on foot, or visitors can take minivans waiting at the junction for an 8-yuan, 3-minute ride.
