Which mountain is recommended for hiking in Haibei?
Qilian County, known as the "Little Switzerland of the East", is located 300 kilometers northwest of Xining, near the border of Qinghai Province. Crossing the Qilian Mountains leads into Gansu Province.
Zhuo'er Mountain sits 2 kilometers north of Qilian County and is rarely visited by group tour groups. It is an ideal stop for self-driving or chartered car travelers taking the Xining – Qinghai Lake – Qilian Mountains – Zhangye route along National Highway 227.
With an altitude of 4,300 meters, Zhuo'er Mountain features Danxia landforms. It stands close to the Babao River, facing Niuxin Mountain, a sacred Tibetan mountain, across the water. Shuttle buses are required to enter the scenic area due to the high elevation, as hiking up the mountain is physically demanding. Endless stretches of the Qilian Mountain Range surround Zhuo'er Mountain. From June to August, the grassland is vivid emerald green, and the golden rapeseed flower fields boast richer layered scenery and grander vistas than those in Menyuan.
