Menyuan County lies 150 kilometers north of Xining under the administration of Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It is famous for its vast stretches of rapeseed flowers blooming every July and serves as a major oilseed production base in Northwest China.

The rapeseed flower fields in Menuan extend dozens of kilometers, covering a total area of 600,000 mu. Far more spectacular than rapeseed blossoms in regions south of the Yangtze River, they stretch boundlessly like a vast golden ocean. Most farmlands slope down toward the river channel. Standing on the riverbank and looking out to both sides, visitors will see endless golden blossoms as far as the eye can reach, with the Haomen River winding through the middle. The river resembles a silvery ribbon trimmed with two golden borders, meandering gracefully and forming a stunning backdrop against the distant Qilian Mountains.

There are three prime viewing spots for admiring Menyuan’s rapeseed flowers. First, South Mountain opposite the county cement plant, around 4 kilometers southeast of Haomen Town (the seat of Menyuan County). Second, Yuanshan Flower Viewing Platform in Qingshizui Town, roughly 20 kilometers west of Haomen Town. Third, the Daban Mountain Viewing Platform on the highway from Xining to Menyuan County Seat, approximately 30 kilometers away from Haomen Town. Most tourists choose Qingshizui Town for flower viewing, as the rapeseed fields here are densely concentrated.

The Menyuan Rapeseed Flower Sea is situated in Menyuan Hui Autonomous County, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It is 150 kilometers from Xining and 150 kilometers from Qilian.

A one-day round trip from Xining to Qingshizui Town costs roughly 500 RMB. Chartering a car for sightseeing within Qingshizui Town ranges from 200 to 300 RMB per vehicle, covering 4 to 5 scenic sites.

Route: Xining — Menyuan County (Haomen Town) Over a dozen buses depart daily from Xining Xinning Road Bus Station to Menyuan County. The whole journey takes about 3 hours with a fare of around 40 RMB per passenger. Passengers can alight midway at Qingshizui Town, which is about 20 kilometers away from Haomen Town. Self-driving tourists can access the rapeseed flower sea in Menyuan from multiple directions including Datong, Qilian and Zhangye. Every route is a scenic highway in its own right.
