What Attractions Are There in Aershan? What Fun Places Can You Visit in Aershan?

Natural Oxygen Bar – Aershan National Forest Park

(1) Aershan Heavenly Lake – The Third Highest Crater Lake in China

Highlights: Surrounded by rolling mountains, Aershan Heavenly Lake looks like an oval bright mirror embedded amid the peaks when viewed from above. In late spring and early summer, green birch trees, blue sky and white clouds reflect perfectly on the water surface, blending the sky and lake into one seamless scene. White gulls and wild ducks swim leisurely on the lake, creating a stunning Chinese landscape painting come to life.

Romantic Encounter – Rose Peak

Highlights: Rose Peak is a marvelous stone landscape made up of more than ten jagged stone peaks scattered in picturesque disorder. Stone steps wind upward through the peaks, and the left peak stands almost at a perfect right angle of 90 degrees. Climb to the top, and you can overlook the entire surrounding scenery. An ancient weathered trail lies at the foot of the mountains, bearing the footprints left by Genghis Khan’s campaigns. Many people do not know that Rose Peak served as one of the outdoor shooting locations for director Feng Xiaogang’s film The Banquet.

Pearl of the Northern Frontier – Seven Fairies Lake Scenic Area

Highlights: The Seven Fairies Lake Grassland ranks as the world’s third-largest grassland and remains one of the best-preserved natural grasslands on Earth. Seven interconnected lakes nestle within the grassland, resembling seven celestial maidens, hence the name. Scattered across the boundless steppe, the seven lakes glisten like seven gemstones inlaid on green turf. Herds of cattle graze freely, thoroughbred horses gallop across the plains, and various wild birds flit about, sometimes resting and playing on the backs of cows. Here you can truly experience the frontier scenery depicted in the ancient poem: “The sky stretches vast, the wilderness boundless; when wind blows, the grass bends low to reveal cattle and sheep.”

Fresh Literary Landmark – Aershan Railway Station

Highlights: Aershan Railway Station is hailed as one of China’s most beautiful train stations and the iconic landmark of Aershan City. It features distinctive Japanese-style architecture with a harmonious palette of yellow and green. Set against blue skies, white clouds, green hills and clear waters, its color scheme blends seamlessly with nature without any jarring contrast — this is the unique charm of the station. Hardly altered by modern buildings, the station has a tiny, stuffy waiting room, so most visitors prefer to stay outdoors, especially to take souvenir photos. A train ride through the heart of the Greater Khingan Range is a must-do during your trip: you will pass dense forests, lakes and wetlands, golden grasslands, and above all, idyllic pastoral landscapes. The station sits a short walking distance from downtown.

Filming Site of Keep Running – Olunbukan

Highlights: Olunbukan is the biggest pleasant surprise awaiting travelers to Aershan. Every stretch of the journey unfolds breathtaking vistas of unspoiled primeval Greater Khingan scenery. It is a natural oxygen bar with exceptionally clean air, vivid blue skies and countless stars filling the night sky. There is a wealth of activities to enjoy: archery experiences, sightseeing rides on a forest small train, immersive displays of primitive religious culture, simulated hunting, and guided trips through volcanic landforms, hot springs (separate ticket required), wetlands and glacial relics. Professional tour guides are provided on-site, offering far richer cultural experiences than other forest-themed scenic spots. Guided tours grant in-depth insight into Tungusic culture. Most notably, this is the filming location of the hit variety show Keep Running. Visitors can explore the Olunbukan tribal village, taste authentic local tribal cuisine, and breathe the fresh forest air of this natural oxygen bar.
