Two-Day Lianyungang Travel Itinerary – The Most Reasonable Arrangement
Arrive at Xinpu Railway Station before noon if possible. Take Bus No.106 to its terminal stop (a free public beach) for a quick stroll first. To reach Liandao Island, you will need to transfer to another bus (I can’t recall the exact route number; there is only one line crossing the sea causeway). Merchandise and dining on the island are quite pricey.
If you arrive at noon, head to Xugou to enjoy fresh seafood first, then take a taxi to the pedestrian shopping street downtown. It serves as the city’s commercial hub with all kinds of stores, including a KFC. Afterwards, go to Liandao to swim and ride speedboats, though speedboat rides are costly. Spend the whole afternoon there, then retrace your route back to Xinpu via Bus No.106. Walk around to find accommodation — hotels and inns are everywhere, especially many affordable lodgings a short distance east near Suxin Express Bus Station. Xinpu has few lively night markets, so it’s best to turn in early, as climbing Huaguoshan Mountain awaits you the next day.
Get up early on Day 2. Walk to the bus stop at the gate and take Bus No.24 to Shenhu Road Station, then switch to Bus No.10 for the scenic area. Bus No.12 also goes directly there depending on which stop you board (be sure to ask locals for directions). Climbing Huaguoshan is exhausting, and there are numerous temples dotted along the trail. All food and drinks sold on the mountain are overpriced. You will reach the summit around midday; taking the cable car down is highly recommended.
Once back downhill, find a restaurant for a meal and rest. If the return bus to Xinpu passes Cangwu Residential Quarter, stop off at Donggaodi Restaurant right by the stop. It is extremely popular with fantastic food that I personally love.
From there, you can catch a bus to a ticket-free amusement park (rides inside cost extra but are reasonably priced). Alternatively, take a bus back from the scenic spot to the main road and wait for Bus No.103 or No.106 bound for Xugou. Get off at Pingshan Station to visit Global Carnival Amusement Park if interested. It sits very close to Xugou’s commercial district, which you can easily reach by short taxi ride — Xugou is packed with barbecue stalls.
Catch your train back home in the afternoon. Head to Xinpu Railway Station if you are staying in Xinpu, or the station in Xugou if you’re lodging there; both are conveniently accessible. You will already be worn out after touring Huaguoshan, so you can skip other scenic spots like Yuwan Valley and Kongwang Mountain — these two core destinations are more than enough for your trip.
