Visit Heshun Library to soak up the cultural atmosphere. Wenchang Palace features horse performances, traditional papermaking, jadeite displays and the ancient craft of Tengchong rice paper making. The Yunnan-Burma Anti-Japanese War Museum houses more than 6,000 precious cultural relics. Wanlouzi is an exquisite ancient folk house built alongside lanes. Heshun Alley hosts caravan culture exhibitions and folk custom displays. Walk past the Liu Ancestral Hall to Yuanglong Pavilion, a temple integrating Buddhism, Taoism and ancestor worship built against the mountain. No scenic area ticket is required for these sites. You can wander freely around the ancient town at your leisure.
Highlights include the Chastity Arch on Dashi Lane, the memorial archway on Yinjia Lane, the Cun Ancestral Hall, God of Wealth Hall; Zhongtian Temple on the hillside, plus the Former Residence of the Jade King, Zhang Ancestral Hall, Kuixing Pavilion, Sanguan Hall and Yin Ancestral Hall.
Two-Day Tengchong Tour
Day 1
Roam the ancient overseas Chinese town of Heshun and admire its timeless beauty; visit Rehai Geothermal Park for sightseeing and hot spring bathing.
Day 2
Explore the spectacular volcanic clusters at Volcanic Geopark; go boating and taste freshly grilled fish on Beihai Wetland; enjoy wild cherry blossoms and hot springs in Cherry Blossom Valley.
Seven-Day Tengchong Tour
D1: Travel from Kunming to Tengchong by coach.
D2: Heshun Ancient Town. With picturesque landscapes, this place is a favourite shooting and painting location for film directors, photographers and artists.
D3: Visit volcanic landforms, columnar joints and Black Fish River, then head to Beihai Wetland. Backpackers can take a midibus from Tengchong West Bus Station. The fare is 5 RMB, and the journey takes 20 minutes.
D4: Sightsee in Rehai. On the way back, stop at the Dai village of Hehua to view peasant paintings, watch flocks of egrets and admire the magnificent Bapai Spring.
D5: Downtown Tengchong tour: National Martyrs Cemetery, Dieshui Waterfall, Laifeng Mountain and Tengyue Cultural Square.
D6: Houqiao and Binlang River. Experience the life of the local Lisu ethnic group in Houqiao, watch the thrilling "Walking on Knives and Crossing Burning Coals" stunt, and appreciate the stunning scenery along Binlang River.
D7: If time permits, take an excursion into the Gaoligong Mountains.
Three-Day Special Tour in Tengchong
D1 (Southwest Route)
Charter a car to Rehai. Sightseeing takes half a day; a full day is needed if you plan to soak in hot springs.
D2 (Northwest Route)
Take a midibus or a chartered car to the volcanic clusters for a half-day trip. Extend the tour to Yunfeng Mountain for a full-day outing.
D3 (West Route)
This route is close to downtown Tengchong. Charter a car to visit Dieshui Waterfall, the National Martyrs Cemetery and Heshun Ancient Town, covering all sites in one full day.
Adventure Tour from Baoshan to Myanmar

Follow the historic Southern Silk Road and the Stilwell Highway to explore the mysterious and beautiful country of Myanmar. This Buddhist nation has a forest coverage rate exceeding 50 percent. Myitkyina
A strategic frontier city in northern Myanmar and the capital of Kachin State. It sits on the west bank of the Mali River, a tributary of the upper Irrawaddy River, serving as the most important inland river port in northern Myanmar.
Distance
It is just over 100 kilometres from the Houqiao Border Port in Tengchong to Myitkyina via the new highway.
Major Attractions

Myanmar Climate
Myanmar lies in the tropical zone with three distinct seasons:
- Cool Season (Mid-October to Mid-February): The peak travel season for tourists and spiritual practitioners. Meditation centres welcome more foreign visitors during this period.
- Hot Season (Mid-February to Mid-May): Temperatures often rise above 30°C. Many travellers head to northern Upper Myanmar to escape the intense heat.
- Rainy Season (Mid-May to Mid-October): Buddhist monks observe the three-month rainy retreat from July to October to deepen their spiritual practice. Many senior practitioners also put aside secular affairs to join monastics in meditation.
Travel Tips
To travel from Tengchong to Myitkyina, you only need to apply for a border pass at the frontier defence station. At present, the pass is only issued to residents of Yunnan Province.
For visitors from other provinces, the most convenient option is to join a local tour group departing from Tengchong to Myitkyina.
