As an ancient form of Nuo opera, Guansuo Opera is exclusively preserved in Xiaotun Village of Chengjiang County and Yangzong District in Yuxi. It retains primitive performing styles and exclusively stages stories from the Three Kingdoms, having been passed down through generations. Ritual ceremonies and worship at the Le Wang Temple are held before every performance.

This traditional folk art integrates opera, novels, historical legends, folk tales, sculpture and painting. The floats are paraded on the 16th day of the first lunar month every year. There are normally 12 floats, and 13 in a leap year.

The themes cover ancient tales, modern life and ethnic customs, including classic stories such as Liu Yi Delivers the Letter, Reconciliation Between General and Prime Minister, Water Margin, The Flooding of Golden Mountain Temple, Three Attacks on the White Bone Demon and The Romance of the Western Chamber.
