Mountains for Hiking in Huizhou – Where Are Easy Hiking Trails?
Huicheng District
Gaobang Mountain
Also known as Bang Ridge, Gaobang Mountain sits in the southern part of Huicheng District. Boasting lush green scenery and profound cultural heritage, it is home to "Spring Rain over Bang Ridge", one of the Eighteen Historic Sights of West Lake (ticket required).
Perched atop the mountain stands Guabang Pavilion, an imitation Ming and Qing official-style building reaching 39.99 meters in height, towering aloft with magnificent momentum.
Huiyang District
Yagongding
Located in Danshui urban area of Huiyang, Yagongding stands 306 meters above sea level and is hailed as the "natural oxygen bar" of Huiyang. It forms the core of Yagongding Forest Park.
From the summit, visitors enjoy panoramic views of Danshui downtown and Daya Bay, making it the top hiking and leisure destination for locals in the Danshui-Ao area.
Huidong County
Jiulong Peak
If you want a short hiking trip within Huidong, Jiulong Peak and Fei'e Ridge are ideal choices.
Jiulong Peak lies 14 kilometers east of Huidong County Town. Its main peak is 563 meters high, with a 1,600-meter hiking trail consisting of 3,059 stone steps in total.
Fei'e Ridge
Fei'e Ridge Forest Park is on the eastern side of the county town. Its highest peak rises 213 meters, ranking among the tallest hilltops in urban Huidong. Standing at the summit, you can overlook the entire county town and catch partial views of surrounding towns including Daling, Baihua and Duozhu.
Pingtianzhang
Huizhou Pingtianzhang Municipal Nature Reserve is situated in Lianghua Town, Huidong County. Pingtianzhang, the reserve’s highest mountain, reaches an altitude of 1,026 meters.
Thanks to its lofty elevation, dense forests and abundant water resources, the mountain features numerous mountain springs and grand waterfalls, making it an excellent spot for eco-tourism.
Boluo County
Luofu Mountain (ticket required)
Every Double Ninth Festival, Luofu Mountain draws crowds of hikers from Huizhou and the Pearl River Delta to climb mountains and pray for blessings. Many visitors hike up overnight to greet the sunrise atop Feiyun Summit of Luofu Mountain.
Xiangtou Mountain
Xiangtou Mountain National Nature Reserve is in northern Huizhou within Boluo County, 18 kilometers from downtown Huizhou. Nestled right on the Tropic of Cancer, it is a rare green oasis on the latitude line.
It is the only outdoor recreation paradise around Huizhou integrating casual walks, hiking, stream trekking and mountain traversal.
Note: Xiangtou Mountain is closed to visitors from October to April the following year.
Longmen County
Ta Mountain Park (ticket required)
For local residents of Longmen seeking a nearby hike during the Double Ninth Festival, Ta Mountain Park offers fresh mountain air and gentle trails.
Nankun Mountain (ticket required)
For a longer excursion, head to Nankun Mountain. Located in the southwest of Longmen County, Nankun Mountain National Forest Park has an average altitude of over 600 meters, with its main peak Tiantangding standing at 1,228 meters.
Guifeng Mountain
Guifeng Mountain Provincial Forest Park features grotesque rock formations, cascading waterfalls and rich biodiversity.
The park is divided into several zones: Guifeng Mountain Hiking Zone, Xiaomiao Stream Sightseeing Zone, Half-Moon Pond Leisure Resort and Forest Ecological Protection Zone. Three historical sites are preserved here: the ruins of a Qing Dynasty papermaking workshop, a former base of the Dongjiang Column and an ancient Yao village relic, catering to diverse travel preferences.
Daya Bay Administrative Area
Nanshe Ridge
Completed in 2006, Nanshe Ridge Park is the first park built in Daya Bay. Its summit is the highest point in the surrounding area, offering unobstructed sea views.
A section of stone steps on the mountain top drops nearly vertically, appearing like suspended staircases when viewed from the shore. Locals come here to experience thrilling hiking while gazing out over the ocean and enjoying coastal harbor scenery.
Hutou Mountain
Hutou Mountain Park is a comprehensive ecological urban landmark characterized by subtropical riverine wild woodlands. Its core functions include mountain-top sightseeing, waterside relaxation, fitness and entertainment.
