What Attractions & Fun Places Are There in Huizhou?

Luofu Mountain (Ticket Required)

Features

Luofu Mountain sits within Boluo County, Huizhou, Guangdong Province, 25 kilometers away from the county seat. It ranks among China’s Ten Great Taoist Mountains, known as the Seventh Grotto-Heaven of the Thirty-Six Taoist Grotto-Heavens and the Thirty-Fourth Blessed Land of the Seventy-Two Blessed Lands. It has long earned the reputation of "the No.1 Mountain in Lingnan".

Comments

It enjoys convenient public transport and is ideal for casual sightseeing, temple visits and mountain climbing. Luofu Mountain is split into four scenic zones: Zhuming Cave Scenic Area is the largest, followed by Suluo Cave Scenic Area, Huangguan Temple Scenic Area and Huashou Temple (Huashou Platform) Scenic Area.

Yanzhou Island

Features

Also named Dazhou Island, Yanzhou Island is located in Yanzhou Town, southeast Huidong County, close to Shuangyue Bay. It is an island inside the inland Kaizhou Ocean, 0.35 kilometers southeast from the mainland, covering an area of 3.35 square kilometers. It abounds in sea salt, hence the name Yanzhou (Salt Island).

Comments

This underdeveloped coastal spot is Huizhou’s top self-driving destination, a paradise for birdwatching and the perfect shooting location for basalt rock formations. Photography enthusiasts from the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong frequently gather here for wildlife photography and to capture basalt landscapes, sunrises and sunsets. Though tourist facilities are incomplete, its untouched natural scenery is its greatest charm.

Nankun Mountain (Ticket Required)

Features

Formerly known as Lanfen Mountain, Nankun Mountain National Forest Park is located in Longmen County, Huizhou, Guangdong Province, spanning 124 square kilometers. Its main peak Tiantangding reaches an altitude of 1,228 meters. Situated right beside the Tropic of Cancer, it is hailed as "the Oasis on the Tropic of Cancer".

Comments

Perfect for self-driving tours, hiking and tasting local delicacies. It is extremely popular among road trippers: around 166 kilometers from Shenzhen, a short distance from Zhuhai, and even closer to Guangzhou and Dongguan (only 97 kilometers from downtown Guangzhou). Note that some mountain roads are narrow and hazardous, so extra caution is needed when driving.

Cross Water Resort (Shizishui Resort)

Features

Nestled at the confluence of two mountain streams deep inside Nankun Mountain National Forest Park in Longmen County, this eco-resort is regarded as the finest accommodation on Nankun Mountain. Its design follows the philosophy of harmony between man and nature. It was listed by the U.S. magazine National Geographic as one of the World’s Top 50 Eco-Resorts, the only resort in China to receive this honor.

Comments

One of the filming locations for the movie Dearest. The air quality is exceptional and the environment is premium, with ultra-luxury suites available. Positioned as a high-end wellness and leisure retreat, room rates range from 1,000 to several thousand RMB per night. It is only a 2–3 hour drive from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan and other cities, and rooms must be booked well in advance during peak travel seasons.

Nankun Mountain Grand View Garden Resort (Ticket Required)

Features

Longmen Nankun Mountain Hot Spring Grand View Garden is located in Youtian Village, Yonghan Town, Longmen County, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province. A long-famous hot spring resort nestled at the foot of Nankun Mountain.

Comments

Suitable for family leisure, wellness treatments and recreational trips with easy access. It is 38 kilometers from Zengcheng, 90 kilometers from Guangzhou and 70 kilometers from Dongguan. What began as a single hot spring resort has expanded into a comprehensive complex with villas for sale, vineyards and strawberry farms open for fruit picking. It falls into the mid-to-high price bracket.

Fanhe Village

Features

An ancient village in the southeast of Daya Bay founded roughly during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty, with a 600-year history. Its unique layout of "villages within walled compounds and walled compounds within villages" highlights its outstanding ancient architectural value. Well-preserved cultural relics include Luogang Walled Village, a Qing Dynasty opera stage and imperial edict plaques.

Comments

Ideal for cyclists and self-driving visitors; you can drop by on your way to Xunliao Bay. This uncommercialized, rustic ancient village boasts numerous Hakka walled houses, several old temples and a Republic-era primary school, perfect for shooting old architecture and environmental portrait photography.

Xunliao Bay

Features

Located in Huidong County, Huizhou, this coastline stretches dozens of kilometers and features eight crescent-shaped bays and ninety-nine islets. It was originally named Yaliao Bay. Su Dongpo once visited here with his beloved concubine Wang Chaoyun; noticing the bay lies at the Xun trigram position on the peninsula, he renamed it Xunliao Bay.

Comments

Boasting abundant hotels, it is ideal for weekend self-driving getaways with overnight stays. A small phoenix-shaped islet called Fengchi Island sits off the shore. More than 30 cliff stone carvings once lined the coast, yet most were destroyed over time — the cliff bearing Su Dongpo’s inscribed characters "Xun Liao" was lost to wars. A newly built Mazu Temple now stands as a worthwhile sightseeing spot.

Shuangyue Bay

Features

In Gangkou Town, Huidong, Huizhou, lies a beach shaped like two curved crescent moons, with bright blue sea water flanking both sides — this natural coastline is known as Shuangyue Bay (Double Moon Bay). Before real estate development, it was my favorite getaway spot. The beach stretches 20 kilometers and is around 200 meters wide, with most sections open to the public free of charge.

Comments

A fantastic destination for leisure holidays, fresh seafood feasts and setting off fireworks. The endless shore features fine, silky black sand. Drive or hike up Daxing Mountain viewing platform to overlook the full Double Moon Bay panorama, and don’t miss the nearby Sea Turtle Bay, another remarkable scenic spot.

Pinghai Ancient City

Features

Pinghai Ancient City is situated in Pinghai Town, Huizhou. Constructed in the 18th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1385 AD), it served as a key coastal defense stronghold to fend off pirates. A city wall 1,800 meters in circumference and 6 meters high was built alongside multiple artillery emplacements (wall tickets required).

Comments

There are no standout landmark attractions, but it is great for casual wandering and photography by bike or car. After over 620 years of changes, Pinghai Town still retains four intact city gate towers, partial ancient walls, a complete cross-shaped old street, most traditional residential buildings, numerous ancient temples, cultural ruins and a wealth of historical relics.
