Tanggangzi Hot Springs
Introduction to Tanggangzi Hot Springs
Liaoning Province is known as a land of hot springs, and Tanggangzi Hot Springs in Anshan ranks among China’s four major rehabilitation centers. Nestled in an elegant setting, the spring water is crystal clear and transparent, containing chemical elements such as potassium, magnesium, sodium and sulfur that deliver remarkable therapeutic effects on a wide range of illnesses.
The spring water surges up from underground at a temperature as high as 72 degrees Celsius. Colorless and odorless, it holds over 30 trace elements including potassium, magnesium, radon, sodium, sulfur and chlorine. It nourishes the body, activates meridians, boosts physical fitness and relieves ailments, showing prominent curative effects on rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic diseases and skin disorders. The unique therapeutic combination of natural mineral water and thermal heat was already used by local residents as early as the Tang Dynasty.
Tanggangzi Hot Springs is one of China’s renowned hot springs with a long-standing history. The practice of utilizing hot spring water for treatment and disease prevention stretches back three to four thousand years in China. Starting from the Ming and Qing dynasties, buildings and bathing facilities were erected around the hot springs, drawing an endless stream of visitors seeking hot spring therapies.
In modern times, Tsarist Russia, northeastern warlords and Japanese invaders seized control of the hot springs one after another, constructing villas and resorts here for their own leisure and wellness. After 1945, the hot spring complex suffered severe destruction under the Kuomintang regime. Today, Tanggangzi Hot Springs has been developed into a nationally famous physical therapy and rehabilitation center.
