Are There Maple Forests in Baoding? Where to View Red Leaves in Baoding?

What are the top spots around Baoding for appreciating red autumn foliage? Photography lovers may want to capture stunning shots of red leaves. Come follow the village chief to explore them!

Baishi Mountain

Located 15 kilometers south of Laiyuan County seat, Hebei Province, Baishi Mountain enters its prime red leaf viewing period in early September, lasting until late October. As time passes and elevation shifts, hues of red, yellow and green interweave. Emerald Chinese pine, golden birch and fiery maple leaves blanket the mountain in a breathtaking kaleidoscope of colors, marking Baishi Mountain’s most dazzling season.
The Baishi Mountain Red Birch Festival kicks off on September 6 and runs through October 26. The scenic area holds a national photography contest for outstanding works of Baishi Mountain with a total prize pool of 400,000 RMB. Red birch trees are the iconic vegetation of Baishi Mountain and have been known as "love trees" since ancient times. Walking through the autumn red birch groves feels like stepping into a fairy tale world.
Driving Route: Downtown Baoding → Beijing–Kunming Expressway → Zhangjiakou–Shijiazhuang Expressway → National Highway G207 to the destination. Total distance: around 180 km, driving time approximately 2 hours and 51 minutes.

Baiyintuo

Baiyintuo Scenic Area sits in Yongxing Village, Shunping County, forming the first high mountain range in northwest Baoding. Three prominent peaks stand side by side: Baiyintuo, Yuhuangtuo and Qingyutuo. Baiyintuo is the tallest at 1,008 meters above sea level, featuring a warm temperate continental monsoon climate. Standing atop its summit, visitors enjoy a sweeping view of all surrounding mountains.
Driving Route: Downtown Baoding → Baoding–Laiyuan Highway → Liujia Camp Station in Mancheng → Yongxing Village toward Longtan Lake in Shunping, reaching the destination. Total distance: roughly 75 km.

Pofeng Ridge Scenic Area

Who holds ribbons of seven hues to dance across the sky? Compared with the red leaves at Fragrant Hill, Pofeng Ridge’s autumn foliage has a unique charm. If Fragrant Hill in late autumn is described as "thousands of mountains dyed crimson, layers of forests tinted red", Pofeng Ridge is "wandering amid red leaves as colorful ribbons swirl overhead". Shades of red, yellow, green, pink and black blend with blue skies and white clouds. Seen from afar, the foliage resembles countless fluttering silk ribbons, forming a flowing ocean of vivid colors, thanks to the area’s rich diversity of plant species.

Langya Mountain

One of China’s top 100 classic red tourism sites, Langya Mountain is also an ecologically prominent mountain and a national forest park. Every autumn, its arbors, shrubs, vines and herbaceous plants turn a spectrum of bright shades, adorning this heroic mountain in brilliant color. Each October, during the Langya Mountain Red Leaf Festival, local persimmons ripen, and persimmon-picking tours are hugely popular with self-driving tourists.
Driving Route: Drive north along Lekai North Street → merge onto Baoding Connecting Road → enter Xituo Road, then follow road signs to reach Langya Mountain Scenic Area.

Quansheng Gorge, Tang County

Quansheng Gorge takes its name from the grand canyon of Quansheng Village. Legend has it that Qiu Chuji once practiced Quanzhen Taoism here at Qingxu Mountain, hence the original name Quanzhen Village. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the Eighth Route Army defeated Japanese invaders during a mopping-up operation here, after which the village was renamed Quansheng, meaning "complete victory".
The scenic area lies in Qijiazuo Township, Tang County, Hebei Province. It is 17 km from the Baihe Exit of Beijing–Kunming Expressway and Baoding–Fuping Expressway, 18 km from the Baoding–Laiyuan Highway, and sits near the connecting road linking Baoding–Fuping Highway and Baoding–Laiyuan Highway.
Driving Route: Take Baoding–Fuping Road, pass Shunping and Tang County, exit at Baihe Town and head toward Qijiazuo. Total distance: 80 km.
