Recommended Tourist Attractions in Xingtai

Kongshan Baiyun Cave Scenic Area is located in central Lincheng County, Hebei Province. It leans against the towering Taihang Mountains to the west and faces the boundless North China Plain to the east, boasting an exceptionally superior geographical location.

The scenic area consists of five parts: Baiyun Cave, Qishan Lake, Tianhe Mountain, Small Heavenly Lake and historical relics. It is a comprehensive tourist resort integrating mountains, waters, caves, forests and cultural heritage.

Formed in the Middle Cambrian Period 500 million years ago, Kongshan Baiyun Cave is a rare karst cave landscape in northern China. The five explored and opened cave halls are interconnected end to end. According to their different scenes and atmospheres, they are named in sequence: the Human World, Paradise, the Underworld, the Dragon Palace and Miroku Wonderland.

Tianhe Mountain, known as China’s Mountain of Love, sits in Xingtai City, the hometown of Qixi culture and the birthplace of the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. It lies in the greenest section of the Taihang Mountains on the border between Shanxi and Hebei in western Xingtai, with convenient transportation and charming roadside scenery. It features jagged peaks, steep secluded valleys and lush vegetation. Waterfalls plunge like flying snow and clear springs gurgle. It is famous as a typical Taihang mountain-and-water scenic spot. With pines swaying in the wind and flocks of cattle and sheep wandering around, it is also called the Grassland on the Cloud Top.

It is a bright pearl along the thousand-li Taihang Mountains. Major scenic spots: Han-style Gate, Lotus Fragrance Garden, Welcome Dam, Tianhe Lake, Tianhe Mountain Villa, Love Square, Mandarin Duck Pool, Lingbo Lake, Diexian Valley, Lingxue Lake, Nine Heavens Silver River, Heavenly Gate, Green Lotus Pool (pothole water cave), Water Lily Pool, Lovers’ Valley, Cowherd Village, Immortal Peak, Magpie Bridge, Matchmaker Peak, Virgin Mary Temple, Confucius Rock, Cloud Top Grassland, the World’s No.1 Female Rock, Taihang Macaque Park, etc.

Nine-Dragon Gorge Natural Scenic Area is situated in Jiangshui Town, Xingtai County, on the eastern foot of the middle Taihang Mountains. It is hailed as the No.1 Scenic Spot of Yan-Zhao and praised as a bright pearl of natural scenery in the Taihang Mountains.

More than 60 gorges were formed in the ancient glacial epoch. Each gorge stretches 1 to 4 kilometers long, less than 20 meters at the widest point and only about 1.5 meters at the narrowest. There are numerous natural skylights, stone urns and long cliff-type table mountains, forming a unique red sandstone gorge cluster unmatched in North China.

Here stand towering rolling mountains with magnificent momentum. The area has abundant rainfall and thick vegetation. There are four waterfalls with a drop of over 100 meters, plus more than 30 waterfalls falling 30 to 50 meters. It forms the most concentrated group of waterfalls with the largest vertical drop in North China.

Qiannanyu Ecotourism Zone is located in Jiangshui Town, western Xingtai County. It has more than 80 natural and cultural attractions, divided into ten scenic sections including the Anti-Japanese University Memorial Zone, Ecological Sightseeing Zone and Huashan Scenic Zone. With clear mountains and rivers and pleasant weather, it is an integrated resort for patriotic education, scientific investigation, sightseeing, summer vacation and leisure.

The Exhibition Hall, Monument and huge relief sculptures of the Anti-Japanese University — a national patriotic education demonstration base — stand at the entrance. Scenic spots such as Penholder Mountain, Courage-Training Gorge, Axe-Chopped Peak, Big Dipper Pavilion, Wenchang Pavilion and Zehou Pavilion scatter in the vast forest. Many fine fruits are cultivated in the Exotic Fruit Garden, including American red globe grapes, Australian autumn juicy peaches and Ukrainian cherries. Thousands of Tang-dynasty chestnut trees grow luxuriantly together with dozens of medicinal plants such as American ginseng, eucommia, salvia miltiorrhiza and honeysuckle, forming a distinctive natural view. There are also prehistoric plant fossils dating back 1.4 billion years, ancient Great Wall ruins, Zhigaoyan and the Hot Spring Temple.

Xingtai Canyon Group is a national 4A-level scenic area, a key provincial scenic spot and a Hebei provincial geopark. It is 70 kilometers west of downtown Xingtai and made up of 24 canyons, among which 8 stretch over 1,000 meters long. It is a marvelous wonder among the Taihang peaks. Major sights include Ghost Gate Natural Barrier, Sunny Rainbow over the Sleeping Gorge, Water Drops from Cloudy Cliffs, Jade-like Waterfalls, Jade Lake Terrace, Dragon Palace Pearl, Ji Gong Watching the Sea and Green Peaks of Three Mountains.

The tourist area mainly features quartz sandstone canyons, complemented by steep cliffs, waterfalls and folk customs. Its exclusive quartz sandstone canyon cluster and typical Zhangshiyan sandstone landform are unparalleled among mountain resorts in the Taihang region and even across the whole country.
