Dazhai Ethnic Folk Culture Reserve, Weipang Township
The reserve is located in the northwest of Ceheng County, 50 kilometres away from the county seat, under the administration of Weipang Township. It sits at an average altitude of 1,000 metres with an annual average temperature between 14℃ and 16℃, belonging to the typical karst region of Ceheng.
The protected area covers three villages: Weipang, Jiangjian and Dazhai. It has 1,126 households with a total population of 4,560, spanning a total area of 30 square kilometres. Residents here include the Buyi, Miao and Han ethnic groups, among whom the Buyi people make up 95 percent of the population.
Boasting a long history of ethnic culture and rich folk customs, this place is the birthplace of two classic Buyi performances: the Field-Shifting Dance and the High Platform Lion Dance. With fresh air, beautiful scenery and simple local customs, it is an ideal resort for ethnic cultural tourism and leisure.
