The Yunqiao Man-made Lake is one of the Ten Scenic Spots of Yongshan. Nestled among mountains in Yunjiaba No.1 Community, Yunqiao Village, Xiluodu Town in the southern part of the county seat, this reservoir consists of five key projects: the main dam, spillway, diversion tunnel, water conveyance tunnel and irrigation canals. Sitting at an altitude of 1,820 metres, it was one of the three major key water conservancy backbone projects approved when Premier Zhu inspected Zhaotong in 1995.

The reservoir has a total storage capacity of 10.43 million cubic metres, with a normal water storage volume of 9.1 million cubic metres. It supplies irrigation water for 36,100 mu of farmland as well as domestic water for people and livestock across 10 villages and 4 communities in Xiluodu Town. The dam is a concrete-faced rockfill dam, standing 80 metres high and stretching 320 metres long.

Yunqiao Reservoir lies 30 kilometres from the county seat right beside the Zhaotong-Yongshan Highway. Renowned for its four-season charms — enjoying camellias and azaleas in spring, escaping the summer heat for leisure, viewing red leaves and mountain scenery in autumn, and admiring plateau snow views in winter — it ranks among Yongshan’s top ten tourist attractions. The area boasts exquisite mountains and clear waters with ever-changing vistas.

When you arrive at the reservoir along the highway, the towering dam comes into view immediately. Standing atop the dam, you will be greeted by a vast expanse of mist-shrouded water where mountains are mirrored in the lake and the lake winds through the mountains. The shimmering blue waves stretch endlessly, and the winding shoreline meanders amid green hills. Several lofty peaks encircle the reservoir, forming a magnificent landscape. From the mountain summits, you can enjoy a full panoramic view of the reservoir and the unique plateau scenery.

This place is perfect for sightseeing, fishing, summer getaways and convalescence. It is planned to be built into an integrated tourist destination featuring tourism, holidays, recreation and sightseeing.
