Black-necked Cranes in Maolin Wetland
Dahaizi in Yong'an Village of Maolin Town is 6 kilometres away from Maolin Market Town and 45 kilometres from Zhaotong City.
Yong'an Village is designated as a county-level nature reserve. Inside the reserve lies an artificial lake, surrounded by tens of thousands of mu of grassland and wetland. The fresh air and picturesque scenery make visitors reluctant to leave.
Wetlands are known as "the filter of the Earth's heart". More than 400 black-necked cranes, a rare endangered highland crane species and national Class I protected wildlife in China, inhabit this area. Every year from the tenth lunar month to March of the following year, flocks of black-necked cranes migrate southward to spend the winter here.
