Dahei Mountain in Shulin Township

Dahei Mountain rises in Shulin Yi and Miao Ethnic Township, more than 100 kilometres southeast of the county seat. Its main peak stands at an altitude of 2,689 metres, making it the second highest mountain in the county, only lower than Maoping Shiren Pingzi, which reaches 2,780 metres above sea level.

Stretching from northeast to southwest, Dahei Mountain covers a total area of 22,100 mu, including over 7,000 mu of vegetated land. Rolling hills are covered with dense foliage. Shrubs dominate the woodland, followed by pine and fir trees. The mountain abounds with wild produce and medicinal herbs, such as lacquer, wild honey, gastrodia elata, Adenophora tetraphylla, arisaema, pinellia tuber and wild lilies. Azaleas and camellias bloom profusely in spring. In winter, the whole mountain is blanketed with snow, and the scenery is especially spectacular right after snowfall clears up. Standing on the summit and gazing far into the distance, you will surely share the poetic feeling: I will climb up to the very peak, and see all other mountains shrink into insignificance.
