Lukou Ancient Folk Residences

Lukou Ancient Folk Residences are situated in Lukou Town, Lianhua County. They represent the prime ancient cultural tourism resources of Lianhua.

This large architectural complex was constructed in the Ming and Qing dynasties, with a total building area of 25,000 square metres. Nearly 30 ancestral halls and old mansions stand in neat rows. They feature magnificent structures, rigorous layouts and elegant, primitive artistic designs. Crisscrossing alleys are paved with cobblestones. The drainage ditches and house foundations are built with manually polished blue bricks and ashlar stones.

Each deep courtyard house stretches 26.76 metres in length and 19.65 metres in width, covering a land area of 500 square metres. They adopt a two-storey, three-courtyard connected wooden frame structure, with 30 to 40 rooms inside each building.

Stepping inside, visitors will feast their eyes on gilded ornaments, painted wood carvings, stone calligraphy and paintings, horizontal inscribed boards and couplets, all crafted with exquisite workmanship.

These buildings embody the historical and cultural heritage of Lianhua County and surrounding regions. They fully reflect the artistic atmosphere of folk culture during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and boast great value for sightseeing, development, academic research and practical utilization.
