Yangshan Literary Pagoda

This ancient architectural relic of the Ming Dynasty is listed as a county-level key cultural relic protection unit. It stands near Lukou Village, Lukou Town, Lianhua County, Jiangxi Province, 20 kilometres away from the county seat, accessible directly along the provincial highway from Ji’an to Lianhua.

The pagoda was first constructed in the 15th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1585) and rebuilt in the 44th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1705). It is a seven-storey octagonal multi-eaves tower built with bricks, wood and lime mortar bricks. The tower is 22.4 metres high, with a base perimeter of 16.8 metres and a wall thickness of 1.4 metres.

The ground floor has a gate facing southwest, with an embedded stone tablet carved with four Chinese characters: Yangshan Literary Pagoda. Another stone eulogy for the pagoda is embedded on the second floor facing the same direction. The top is capped with a conical alloy cover, which still retains its sheen after centuries of wind and rain erosion.

Stairs inside lead all the way up to the top storey. Leaning against the windows, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of mountains and rivers, curling smoke rising from farmhouses, and neatly arranged dwellings. The pagoda remains well-preserved to this day.
