Scenic Spot Introduction
"The sun sinks low in the west, quiet lies Weishan Lake; I pluck my beloved lute and sing that touching ballad..."
Famous nationwide thanks to the film Railway Guerrillas, Weishan Lake is located in Weishan County, Jining City, Shandong Province. Stretching 150 kilometers from north to south and 6 to 20 kilometers from east to west, it consists of four interconnected lakes: Weishan, Zhaoyang, Dushan and Nanyang. It receives water from eight regions across four provinces of Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui and Henan, with more than 40 rivers converging into the lake, making it the largest freshwater lake in northern China.
The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal runs through the entire lake and remains navigable to this day. Weishan Island is the largest island within the lake, boasting abundant cultural relics. Heritage sites on the island include the Tomb of Weizi from the Yin and Zhou dynasties, the Tomb of Zhang Liang of the early Han Dynasty, the Tomb of Muyi from the Spring and Autumn Period, the Mausoleum (Temple) of Fuxi, Zhong Zilu Temple, Liuhe Spring, Holy Mother Spring, as well as numerous ancient temples, pavilions, stone steles and Han Dynasty stone relief carvings. There also stands the Monument to the Railway Guerrillas for visitors to pay tribute, endowing the island with high archaeological and ornamental value.
