Scenic Highlights
Countless Waterfalls and Ponds, Bringing Good Fortune
The sightseeing trail winds upward along the mountain stream, accompanied by gurgling springs and blooming wild flowers.
Within less than 2 kilometres from the entrance to the Sweet Osmanthus Waterfall, there are more than ten waterfalls with drops ranging from 10 to 70 metres, including Flying Curtain Waterfall, Phoenix Cry Waterfall, Flying Dragon Waterfall and Sweet Osmanthus Waterfall.
The cascading falls roll up clouds and mist. Below each waterfall lies a clear green pool formed by rock hollows: Curtain Pool, Half-Moon Pool, Divine Turtle Pool, Nine Maidens Pool and Soul-Cleansing Pool are connected one after another, as clear as mirrors.
Shoals of fish chase each other in the streams and pools, bringing visitors cool comfort.
Besides natural water scenery, the valley’s auspicious name draws crowds of tourists wishing for good luck. Fortune Stone, Fortune Temple and the Good Fortune Slide ensure visitors enjoy blessings all the way.
Deep Secluded Gorges, Pristine Wilderness
Stretching more than 10 kilometres, the valley features deep gorges, thick forests, winding ancient paths and arching vines. It retains an entirely original natural ecological landscape.
Unique Landforms and Auspicious Odd Rocks
The river valley boasts peculiar terrain covered with stone pools and flat rock slabs.
A great many pictographic rocks scatter along the river, such as Hippopotamus Rock, Monkey Rock, Dragon Bed Rock and Frog Drum Rock.
The most famous one is Fortune Stone.
On the left bank of Nine-Cave Gorge stands an egg-shaped boulder 2 metres high and 1.2 metres wide. Geologists classify it as a spheroidal stone, which is extremely rare in granite areas.
Local legend says touching this stone will bring prosperity, longevity and lasting good luck. Nearly every visitor will stroke it or walk around it three times to make a wish.
Folk Legends and Red Tourism
The valley is full of touching folk tales and myths, such as "Li Qiao Sacrificing Himself to Save His Mother" and "Wang Zhu’er Repenting His Misdeeds".
Red revolutionary sites set this valley apart from neighbouring scenic spots.
Legends, together with the former site of the Henan People’s Anti-Japanese Army and the Red Army Cave, make the scenery vivid and historically rich.
Wild Rural Charm, Fish and Crabs Everywhere
The clean water nurtures plenty of small fish and crabs.
Travellers can admire roaring waterfalls, listen to singing brooks, swim in emerald pools or play with fish and crabs.
Immersed in the primitive wilderness, you will feel as free as a dragon diving into deep water or a fish swimming freely. It is indeed an earthly paradise.
Authentic Farmhouse Hospitality
Simple local customs keep drawing visitors back time and again.
Staying in quiet farm inns, tasting home-cooked rural dishes and listening to the old men’s erhu melodies, you will feel like stepping into the idyllic paradise described by Tao Yuanming.
