The Qi River Ecological Zone Project in Hebi has a total investment of 5 billion yuan and is developed and constructed by Henan Land Construction and Development Co., Ltd. The project area extends north to Jinshan Forest Park, south to Fushan Forest Park, west to White Dragon Temple Reservoir, and east to the bank of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, with a planned area of approximately 43 square kilometres.

In accordance with the geographical location of the Qi River and the terrain on both banks, the planned zone is divided into five development clusters: Secluded Southern Mountains, Wisdom Illuminating the World, Elegant Qi Prefecture, Shang Town by the River, and Picking Vines along the River Bend. There are also seven major scenic areas: Luxuriant Green Bamboos, Cedar Oars and Pine Boats, Springs on the Left, Legends of Jinshan, Ballad by the Mulberry Grove, Endless Qi River, and Glimpses of Fushan Mountain. Altogether twelve themed functional zones form a ribbon-like layout along the upper and lower reaches of the Qi River.

In line with national industrial policies, the zone will be built into an eco-cultural tourism destination centred on tourism, ecology, low-carbon development and cultural industries, integrating leisure resorts, cultural creativity, modern agriculture and health preservation.

In February 2015, the Qi River Ecotourism Zone was awarded the title of National Ecotourism Demonstration Zone by the China National Tourism Administration and the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
