Xuefeng Cemetery (National 2A-level Scenic Spot)
Located in Bancheng Town, Sihong County and beside the picturesque Hongze Lake, Xuefeng Cemetery is a national 2A-level tourist attraction covering an area of 126 mu.
Peng Xuefeng was former Division Commander of the 4th Division of the New Fourth Army and concurrently Commander of the Huaibei Military Region. He was an outstanding commander and military strategist of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army and the New Fourth Army. He took part in the Third, Fourth and Fifth Anti-Encirclement Campaigns as well as the 25,000-li Long March, and organized numerous battles against Japanese invaders. He sacrificed his life on September 11, 1944, being one of the highest-ranking officers of the New Fourth Army who laid down their lives in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Having devoted 20 years to the revolutionary cause, he was hailed by Mao Zedong and Zhu De as "a fine example for Communists".
This simple, elegant, solemn and dignified martyrs cemetery was built in memory of Comrade Peng Xuefeng. It is designated as a National Key Protected Martyr Memorial Facility, a Cultural Relic Protection Unit of Jiangsu Province, and a base for patriotic education and national defense education for all citizens.
