Spring Comes to Shangtang Memorial Hall (National 2A-level Tourist Attraction)
Located in Dianhu Village, Shangtang Town, Sihong County, known as "the First Village of Rural Reform in Jiangsu Province", the memorial hall opened to the public in December 2008. It was built to mark the 30th anniversary of Reform and Opening-up, in memory of Dianhu Village taking the lead in implementing the household contract responsibility system in 1978.
Its name "Spring Comes to Shangtang" derives from a news report titled Spring Comes to Shangtang published by People’s Daily in March 1981. Shaped like a flagship braving wind and waves on the vast sea, the building symbolizes that Shangtang Town pioneered rural reform across the province by introducing the household-based output-related contract system.
The memorial hall consists of two floors. The first floor serves as the achievement exhibition zone themed "Spring Comes to Shangtang". A wealth of precious cultural relics and photos review the arduous journey of Shangtang’s pioneering reform, showcase the gratifying transformations the town has witnessed today, and look forward to its bright future, fully embodying the innovative spirit of Shangtang residents to dare to imagine and dare to act.
The second floor houses two sections: an exhibition area of vintage rural articles and a public service zone. Diverse old objects recreate the authentic rural life scene of 39 years ago. The public service zone offers local farmers services including land transfer consultation, conference venues and library reading. Here, tradition and modernity, material life and spiritual civilization are perfectly integrated
