Central Jiltai Water Recreation Area
Located in central Nileke County, this scenic area features rows of steep peaks and jagged rocks, rivalling the beauty of the Three Gorges. After the completion of the Jiltai First-stage Hydropower Station in 2006, half of the Jiltai Gorge was submerged. A dam stretches across both banks of the gorge, creating a high-mountain lake 29 kilometres long and covering an area of 49.2 square kilometres upstream. The river basin has turned into a serene lake amid towering gorges with magnificent and spectacular scenery.
Numerous islands and peninsulas have formed along the reservoir. The winding shorelines, green mountain grasslands and misty vast lake surface have become a new highlight for tourism development in Nileke County.
Note: The scenic spot is applying for the national AAAA-level tourist attraction status. It is 30 kilometres east of the county seat.
