Western Kashgar River Valley Ancient Poplar Wetland Scenic Area
The scenic area is situated in western Nileke County, covering a total area of 213,000 mu. Thanks to years of enclosure and conservation efforts, the trees have grown into a dense forest. It has become one of the largest, best-preserved river valley wetlands with the most remarkable ecological benefits across the five northwestern provinces of China. In May 2014, it was officially designated as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration.
Thick canopies cover the whole scenic zone, which consists of arbor, shrub, flower and moss communities. The upper layer is dominated by tall and robust poplars together with graceful birch trees. The middle layer includes small-leaved ash, red willow, sea buckthorn and hawthorn. The ground is carpeted with vines, grasses and mosses, creating extremely charming scenery.
