Baishuitang is the largest and last remaining lake in the flatlands of Luliang County, Qujing City, Yunnan Province. It lies in Sanchahe Town, 15 kilometers away from the county seat. Nestled between the Nanpan River and Dugong River, the lake stretches longer from north to south and narrower from east to west. Fed mainly by rainfall, it covers a total area of 1.6 square kilometers with an average depth of 2 meters. In midsummer, the vast water surface surges with foaming white waves, hence the name Baishuitang, literally meaning "White Water Pond".
Overlooking the Luliang Basin from Longhai Mountain, you will see the Nanpan River winding like a jade belt around the land, while Baishuitang glistens like a crystal sapphire set on a crown.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the air is filled with the fragrance of ripe rice, heralding a bumper harvest. A boat ride on the lake drives away the lingering summer heat and brings refreshing coolness. Surrounded by vast lotus ponds spanning ten thousand mu, you can admire the misty expanse of the lake and the towering grandeur of Longhai Mountain. When you pause to rest, fish about one foot long swim freely underwater or leap out of the surface, rippling the water in waves.
The scene perfectly embodies the poetic line: "Lotus leaves stretch endlessly to meet the sky; lotus blossoms glow uniquely red in the sun." Amid the lush green foliage, graceful red lotus flowers stand tall and elegant, exuding delicate fragrance. Visitors wandering among the lotus blooms are almost hidden from sight, while merry laughter from lotus pickers drifts across the water. On rainy days, the landscape unfolds like a natural painting, soothing the mind and lifting the spirits.
The lotus flowers of Baishuitang form a stunning scenic spot in the eastern part of the county, and its lotus roots are a local specialty well-known across Yunnan.
The scenic area features a 6.4-kilometer water navigation route, an 11-kilometer circular lakeside road, and 25 fish ponds of various sizes available for angling. It is a comprehensive resort integrating entertainment, leisure and vacation services.
