Thanks to its unique natural and geographical conditions, Dahai Grass Mountain features a pristine subalpine meadow landscape. It embodies the grace of the Inner Mongolia Grassland as well as the grandeur of the Xizang Plateau. Simple, untouched and natural, it is praised as "New Zealand of China and Little Xizang in Northeastern Yunnan".
The scenic area lies in the southeast of Dahai Township, 42 kilometers away from the county seat. With an altitude ranging from 3,500 meters to 4,017 meters, it covers an area of 200,000 mu. Viewed from afar, the grassland stretches endlessly like rolling waves. Up close, the lush grass glistens and wild blossoms carpet the fertile land. Winding streams meander across the mountains like silken ribbons, with fresh, sweet spring water refreshing to the soul.
The weather here is fickle all year round. Sometimes the sky is vast and clear under bright sunshine; sometimes swirling clouds and mist shroud the mountains completely. At times, rosy clouds glow across the firmament like gorgeous brocade; other times, beams of sunlight pierce through gaps in the clouds.
In spring and summer, the vast grassland is covered with a thick green carpet dotted with blooming wild flowers, just like inlaid jewels. Amid the boundless mountains, endless meadows and distant blue sky dotted with drifting white clouds, visitors feel as if they have stepped into a fairyland. Grass skiing, horse racing and singing are all delightful pastimes here.
In autumn and winter, the entire mountain is wrapped in snow. The soft grassland becomes a vast natural ski resort.
The main peak, Guniu Stockade Peak, rises steeply from the ground like a pillar propping up the sky. Its sheer cliffs look as if hewn by axes, imposingly precipitous. Flocks of swallows hover around the mountainside, which is veiled in mist all year round. On the summit sits a basin-shaped pool reflecting the blue sky and white clouds. Legend has it that it was the jade basin where the Queen Mother of the West washed and bathed.
Standing atop the peak, you can overlook the rolling mountains of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces. The breathtaking scenery calms the mind and makes people linger unwilling to leave, washing away all worldly worries.
Truly a blessed land bestowed upon the people of Huize by nature, Dahai Grass Mountain is a paradise for painters and photographers, an ocean for literary creation, an Eden of inspiration for poets, and an ideal destination for eco-tourism.
