Incense Burner Mountain Scenic Area is 20 kilometres south of Bin County downtown and 80 kilometres away from Harbin, covering an area of 12 square kilometres. It belongs to the branch range of the Zhangguangcai Ridge of the Changbai Mountains. Its main peak stands at an altitude of 790 metres and resembles an incense burner, hence the name.
It is a mountain of revolutionary memory, pilgrimage and romance, an ideal destination for sightseeing, getting close to nature and relaxing body and mind.
The mountain features lofty and precipitous ridges stretching continuously, covered by towering dense woods with pleasant scenery all year round. There are altogether 47 scenic spots including Verdant Valley, Wood-Stone Bond, Ice Lake, Butterfly Valley, Lovers’ Peaks, One-Line Sky, Buddha Light Cliff, Python Immortal Cave, Fu’an Taoist Temple, as well as the site of the former PLA No.701 Factory.
With distinct four seasons and fertile soil, the forest coverage rate exceeds 98%. Endowed with valleys, rock cliffs, dense woods, mountain streams and ice-snow landscapes, it boasts steep grotesque peaks, ancient towering trees, gurgling clear water and beautiful folk legends. It is regarded as the nearest, most primitive, exquisite and mysterious mountain near Harbin.
The fault valley, a landmark geological site here, features landforms such as isolated peaks, structural faults, fault scarps, joints, fissures and collapse deposits, together with mountain streams. Abundant water resources have shaped typical volcanic rock structural landforms. The imposing peaks retain their original geological features.
The area maintains a relatively intact forest ecosystem and wildlife communities. Surveys have identified more than ten precious tree species native to Northeast China: Korean pine, larch, Scotch pine, spruce, oak, linden, ash and white birch. Dozens of grass species including Ussuri sedge and meadow rue grow across the hillsides.
Medicinal herbs such as rhizoma dioscoreae, acanthopanax, schisandra, atractylodes, ginseng and plantain thrive here, alongside wild edibles including bracken, pine mushrooms, white mushrooms, wood ear and daylily. Wild fruits like hawthorn, wild grape, walnut and kiwi berry can also be found.
Wild animals including wolves, foxes, sika deer, roe deer and snakes inhabit the mountain. Boasting unique charm of wonder, fun, grace, seclusion and peril, the mountain is praised as a forest of ten thousand trees, a meadow of hundreds of grasses and a natural zoo.
Boasting a favourable geographical location and complete infrastructure, the scenic area offers all-inclusive one-stop tourist services, making it a favourite travel destination for local visitors in Heilongjiang Province.
Transport: Drive along the Tongjiang-Sanya Expressway to Bin County, then travel 20 kilometres south to reach the scenic area.
Accommodation & Catering: Farmstay — Xianxiangju, plus hotels and other lodgings
