China-Japan Friendship Garden

Formerly known as the Japanese Cemetery of Fangzheng Area, the garden was constructed with the approval of Premier Zhou Enlai in 1963. It stands as solid evidence of the crimes committed by Japanese militarism during its invasion of China, and also serves as a bond of friendship linking the Chinese and Japanese peoples.

The garden lies 7 kilometres east of Fangzheng Town, covering a land area of 30,000 square metres with a construction area of 800 square metres. In the northern section stand the Memorial Exhibition Hall and the Cemetery of Chinese Adoptive Parents. Built in traditional Japanese architectural style, the exhibition hall was funded by the Sino-Japanese Friendship Association of Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It displays firearms and shrapnel from the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, as well as precious photos recording people-to-people exchanges between the two countries in recent years.

Within the garden are monuments commemorating peace and friendship between China and Japan, plus the Memorial Stone for Fujiwara Nagasaku and other structures光明网.

In recent years, the county Party committee and county government have increased financial investment in the garden and upgraded reception facilities. The garden has been included in Fangzheng’s red tourism development plan for further development and construction. It has become a patriotic education base in Fangzheng, educating teenagers to remember history, foster patriotic convictions, and make greater contributions to socialist construction.
