Shigu Temple stands on Xingshan Mountain, 5 kilometers northwest of Jingxing County seat. Inside the temple lies a stone drum, which legend says was carved from the stone left by Nüwa when she mended the sky. According to ancient stele inscriptions, the drum often sounds of its own accord with deafening reverberations. It is said that King Mu of Zhou once came here to admire it, and emperors of the Tang and Song dynasties also paid personal visits. Preserved in the temple is a Dharaṇī Sutra Stone Pillar erected in the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty, a cultural relic of great historical value.
Behind the temple lies Echo Valley, praised by the ancients as the foremost valley of echoing sounds. Surrounded by luxuriant woods dominated by chestnut trees, the temple features exotic rock formations, clear springs and graceful valleys, boasting a unique scenic charm.
