Gantao Lake is nestled in the remote mountainous area of southern Jingxing County. It is home to one of China’s large, well-preserved natural secondary forests with superior ecological environment. The scenic area features lofty and steep mountains dotted with strange peaks and grotesque rocks. There are more than 1,400 species of plants, over a hundred kinds of rare trees and a variety of precious birds and wild animals. As the site of a national pumped storage power station, Gantao Lake is reputed as the Three Gorges of the North.
The scenery here is picturesque all year round: blooming peach blossoms adorn the mountains in spring; thick green canopies provide cool shade in summer; red leaves carpet the hills in autumn; and the snow-covered landscape resembles galloping white elephants in winter. It is a natural ecological scenic area integrating tourism, adventure, scientific research, fitness and leisure.
