Changsheng Cave in Wufeng is a breathtaking cave wonder sculpted by nature’s extraordinary craftsmanship. It is situated on the hillside 100 metres west of Tianchi River, south of the old county seat in Wufeng Town, Wufeng Tujia Autonomous County. The cave lies about 4 kilometres from Wufeng Slow City and 160 kilometres from Yichang, the Pearl of the Three Gorges. Adjacent to Houhe National Nature Reserve, it also falls on the mysterious 30th parallel north. The whole area boasts clear mountains and rivers, magnificent gorges, deep karst caves and unique natural scenery.

The cave took shape 140 million years ago. Its entrance is nestled between two east-west cliffs at an altitude of 680 metres. It stretches 300 metres deep and spans 1,500 metres horizontally. The cave is divided into three vertical layers, ranging from 50 to 100 metres in height, featuring more than 20 scenic spots including Travel Through Time, Reincarnated Lotus and Mysterious Starry Sky.

The varied stalactites shine vividly under colourful lighting, shifting from dazzling streams of light to bizarre fantastic scenes and brilliant rainbow hues. This three-dimensional natural masterpiece overwhelms visitors with endless stunning views.

According to legend, in the 11th century BC, Lin Jun, ancestor of the Tujia people, often lived and feasted here with his clansmen and soldiers, enjoying an immortal life. Every scenic spot comes with a beautiful folk tale, blending scenery and legend perfectly.

It is also recorded that Zhang Xianzhong, a peasant uprising leader in the late Ming Dynasty, led his troops from Changsha into Sichuan and stayed in this cave for seven days. He left refreshed and inspired, sighing with emotion: Seven days inside the cave feel like thousands of years in the mortal world.

With a pleasant constant temperature, the cave stays warm in winter and cool in summer, offering total relaxation. True to its name Changsheng (Longevity), it is an ideal destination for sightseeing, health preservation and leisure.
