Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is located in the northwest of Xi'an and on the outskirts of Xianyang. It operates flights connecting major domestic cities, as well as international routes to Japan, Thailand, South Korea and other countries.
Transportation in Xi'an — Railway
Xi'an is a key transportation hub on the Longhai Railway Line. Xi'an Railway Station stands outside the northeastern section of the city wall. Direct trains run between Xi'an and Beijing, Shanghai. A morning departure will arrive in the evening.
Xi'an North Railway Station was put into service in early 2011. It is the most convenient choice for travelers heading to Huashan Mountain and Luoyang.
Transportation in Xi'an — Highway
Provincial Coach Station is right opposite Xi'an Railway Station, offering regular buses to destinations across Shaanxi Province.
Xi'an City Coach Station, locally known as Shuisi Coach Station, lies outside the southwestern city wall. The other four major coach stations in the city follow a clear directional division:
- South Coach Station: Routes to southern Shaanxi
- West Coach Station: Routes to Xianyang and Baoji
- East Coach Station: Routes to Weinan
- North Coach Station: Mainly routes to northern Shaanxi
Transportation in Xi'an — Urban Travel
Public Buses
Xi'an boasts an extensive public bus network, covering nearly all areas of the city. Multiple tourist shuttle buses are available for visitors, departing from the East Square of Xi'an Railway Station. They travel to major scenic spots including Huashan Mountain, the Terracotta Army, Famen Temple, Taibai Mountain and the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang.
Taxis
Most taxis in the city are green models with an engine displacement below 1.8 liters. Vehicles with larger displacement are rarely seen cruising for passengers.
The daily shift change for taxis takes place from 16:00 to 18:00. It is quite common for taxi drivers to refuse rides during this period.
Bicycle Rental
Renting a bicycle is a convenient and efficient way to tour the ancient city. Hostels and outdoor gear shops generally provide bicycle rental service, with a daily rate of 20 to 30 yuan
