The building for storing Buddhist scriptures or Sutras is called “Hong Tham” or “Ye Tham” in Dai language. These scriptures, which contain a comprehensive compendium of local culture, are recorded in palm leaves and mulberry paper books. For a particular festival held every year during the Buddhist Lent, local villagers will “order” new texts to be produced by monks and novices as an offering to the temple, and these books will then be read and chanted during several days. Once the festival is finished, villagers may choose a text especially valuable for its amelioration of the tradition, then put it in the Sutra Pavilion in order to help spread the Dharma when the time comes
