In Buddhism freeing living animals is a common practice. This is connected with the idea of not taking any life, which is the first of the Buddhist disciplinary rules (Vinaya): the non-killing precept is the first of the Five, Eight, and Ten Precepts, which must be observed by monks and by all Buddhist followers. Every Buddhist has the duty to save the lives of animals which are about to be sacrificed, while justifying this on the suffering of living beings and the need to consider all beings as our parents. If we agree on this affinity, then we must accept we cannot kill each other. pl^4136
