A long time ago, there was a mountain village named Jingpiao, and at the foot of the mountain there was an expanse of water. One night, when the villagers were deeply asleep, the sky was suddenly shuttered by thunder, and the earth trembled like in an earthquake. The people were woken up fearing that a gigantic fish was violently jumping over his body to turn the earth upside down. When they got up in the early morning, they found next to the village a huge stone which had dropped from the sky.
After some time, the Buddha came to this village and took a rest on this stone. The villagers brought flowers, fruits and came to listen to Him preaching the Dharma. The Buddha sat on the stone facing the expanse of water at the foot of the mountain and said: “This will be a place for spreading my Dharma and to build a beautiful city”.
After the Buddha went away the people in the village called this stone “The Sacred Stone” and made offerings to it –a custom which has lasted until today.
