Yuantuo Island is a sandy island in the Bohai Bay southwest of Leting County, with a land area of 10.5 square kilometers. It takes its name from its shape resembling a slender crescent moon. Located 4.8 kilometers offshore, the island enjoys excellent natural seclusion.

Dense shrubs grow all over the land, and wild flowers and fruits exude a delicate faint fragrance. The nearly isolated natural environment bears little trace of human interference or damage, preserving a primitive ecological landscape. Hundreds of bird species live and breed here in flocks of thousands. Seagulls soar across the blue sky, wild ducks glide calmly over the water, white sea eagles spread their wings majestically, and white and black storks wander leisurely. As a poem describes: Vast clear blue waves stretch far and wide, Hundreds of birds sing as they take flight; Wild grass and blossoms blend with sparse woods, Winding stone paths link wooden pavilions.

Boasting distinctive Dutch pastoral charm, Yuantuo Island is currently under development as an exotic eco-tourism resort.

Nestled in an arm of the Bohai Sea southwest of Leting County, Tangshan, 4.8 kilometers from the mainland, Yuantuo Island ranks among the most renowned eco-tourism resorts in northern China, also nicknamed Green Island and Happy Island. Together with Jinsha Island and Putuo Island, it forms a lengthy coastal tourist corridor stretching from Shanhaiguan Pass in the east, via Beidaihe and Golden Coast in the south, to Caofeidian in the west. Yuantuo Island stands as the brightest pearl strung along this golden tourist belt.
