Li Dazhao Memorial Hall
Brief Introduction to the Exhibition Hall
The Li Dazhao Memorial Hall encompasses an exhibition complex and the former residence of Li Dazhao. The exhibition hall sits in the new urban district of Leting County, Hebei Province. Approved by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and initiated by the Hebei Provincial Party Committee, its foundation stone was laid on August 18, 1996, and it was completed and opened to visitors on August 16, 1997. State leaders attended the opening ceremony.
Covering a land area of 130 mu with a construction area of 8,680 square meters, the main building alone occupies 5,200 square meters, including 2,250 square meters of exhibition space. Core exhibits at the memorial hall include a chronological display of Li Dazhao’s life and deeds, a forest of stone monuments dedicated to Li Dazhao, a special exhibition showcasing his integrity and noble character, and his former residence.
As a sub-county-level institution and a National Second-Class Museum, the memorial hall operates six functional departments: General Office, Publicity and Education Department, Red Tourism Development Department, Landscape Gardening Department, Security Department, and Former Residence Management Office.
Since opening to the public, the memorial hall has played a pivotal role in patriotism education. After free admission was introduced in 2008, it receives over 1.5 million domestic and overseas visitors annually, with visitor numbers rising year by year; the 2012 visitor count reached 1.8 million. More than 500 schools, government organs and communities have established moral education bases here.
