Boasting a profound history and enchanting scenery, Baochan Mountain was once a vast ocean 450 million years ago. Repeated crustal movements alternately lifted the seabed into land and submerged land back under water. It finally rose above sea level during the last Yanshan Orogeny. Formerly known as Huashan Mountain, Baochan Mountain lies 7.5 kilometers northeast of Hanshan County seat.
To its east stands Ganoderma Mountain, covered with towering ancient trees and named for its abundant wild ganoderma lucidum. At its heart rises Qiyun Peak, piercing the clouds — whenever rain looms, the summit is shrouded in thick fog. To the west lies Bowl Ridge. Legend says an arhat was born here; after his meal, he tossed his bowl onto the ridge, and faint marks of his sitting and reclining figures can still be seen today.
Climbing to the mountain’s summit offers a panoramic view of encircling green peaks. Visitors delight in the wild mountain scenery, thrilling explorations of hidden nooks and the joy of ascending heights, reluctant to depart.
