Baiji Peak Scenic Area (Donglai Township)
Nestled on the southwestern slope of the Changbai Mountains and locally known as Xuezigou (Boot Valley), the scenic area borders Baiji Peak National Forest Park of Tonghua City to the northwest. It has a temperate continental monsoon climate with four distinct seasons and a large temperature difference between summer and winter.
This forest eco-tourism site is dominated by natural landscapes. The magical White Chicken Rocks fan out from south to north. The area is rich in plant resources, mainly covered with coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forests. Major tree species include Korean pine, spruce, fir, oak and birch, as well as rare varieties such as Chinese yew, prickly ash tree, pagoda tree and taxus chinensis. More than 160 types of plants grow beneath the forest canopy, including wild ginseng, artificially cultivated woodland ginseng, gastrodia elata and asarum heterotropoides.
As recorded in historical documents, the White Chicken Rocks are hard and silvery white like snow. The two connected peaks resemble two chickens, hence the name "Baiji Peak" (White Chicken Peak). The mountain is jointly administered by Tonghua City and Tonghua County: its western slope belongs to Baiji Peak Forest Park of Tonghua City, while the eastern slope is the Baiji Peak Scenic Area of Donglai Happy Valley. It is divided into Front White Chicken Peak (1,318 m) and Rear White Chicken Peak (1,300 m). Research proves that this was once an ancient camel caravan route.
With a forest coverage rate of 99% and a total area of 35 square kilometers, the scenic area consists of distinctive spots such as Huitong Breeding Park, Lusheng Ecological Park, cold-water fish viewing area and Pudu Temple.
