Tonghua County Revolutionary Martyrs Monument
Tonghua County was once the battlefield of the national anti-Japanese hero General Yang Jingyu. On this land with a glorious revolutionary tradition, countless heroic figures emerged.
Revolutionary martyrs such as Gao Zhihang and Du Guanghua sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the Chinese nation, writing an immortal chapter in the revolutionary history of Tonghua County.
To commemorate these revolutionary martyrs, honor their heroic deeds, and establish a permanent patriotism education monument for the county's people, a proposal from the County Civil Affairs Bureau was adopted by the County People's Congress in 1988 to build the Tonghua County Revolutionary Martyrs Monument.
The foundation stone was laid on July 30, 1988, and the monument was completed on August 1 (Army Day), 1989, after one year of construction.
Located on the hillside east of Damao Mountain in the county seat, it covers 1,200 square meters. The main monument is 12.6 meters high, topped with blue glazed tiles. The body is inlaid with granite, with a white marble facade engraved with the eight bold characters: "Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs". The 4-meter-square base features white marble sculptures of revolutionary martyrs.
In 1993, the "Revolutionary Martyrs Monument" was named the first batch of County-Level Patriotism Education Bases by the Tonghua County Party Committee and Government. In April 1998, it was designated a Tonghua City Patriotism Education Base by the Publicity Department of the Tonghua Municipal Party Committee. Every year, a large number of young students come here to cherish the memory of revolutionary martyrs.
