A national 3A-level tourist attraction and the second-largest reservoir in Guangdong Province, Hedi Silver Lake is famous nationwide for the Leizhou Youth Canal built alongside it. The reservoir covers over 140 square kilometers with a catchment area of 1,440 square kilometers, known as an “Artificial Sea.” Gazing into the distance, one sees a vast expanse of water merging with the sky, a beautiful view called “Crane Lake Misty Rain.” Lush green mountains line both banks, and the lake water is as blue as jade.
Dozens of small hills of various shapes dot the lake like pearls scattered by fairies, enhancing the lake’s beauty. The dam is a famous national earth dam water conservancy project, boasting a unique structure and magnificent grandeur. Many great figures have visited here, leaving precious inscriptions: the original calligraphy of “Leizhou Youth Canal” by Deng Xiaoping, a poem by Dong Biwu, the horizontal plaque “Youth Pavilion” inscribed by literary giant Guo Moruo, and the spruce (Marshal’s Cypress) planted by Marshal Chen Yi and his wife.
