Ma Lake
Ma Lake is a large natural deep-water plateau lake covering a water area of 73 square kilometers. It is enclosed by lofty mountains on the east, west and south, while a natural dyke made of basalt and limestone rubble lies to the north. The lake features secluded bays and winding shorelines. The lake bed is composed of smooth limestone with no silt. The water remains clear and unpolluted all year round.
Tea plantations and dense forests surround the lake, creating a picturesque landscape. The nearby Jinsha River Gorge features steep mountains, turbulent currents, towering cliffs and grotesque rock formations, presenting a perilous view. This area is a major settlement of the Yi people, where ethnic villages, historical and cultural relics add unique charm to the scenic area.
Vast primeval forests grow around Ma Lake, with towering ancient trees, twisting vines and lichen covering the ground, fully embodying a primitive ambiance. Endowed with superior natural conditions, the lake area is rich in local products, including tender bamboo shoots, precious Chinese caterpillar fungus and rare water shield exclusive to Ma Lake.
