Located 8 kilometers north of downtown Ya'an, Bifeng Gorge gets its name from its lush evergreen woods all year round. Legend has it that the gorge was formed by Nüwa, the mythical goddess who mended the sky. More than 60 scenic spots inside are related to her tales, lending the place an air of mystery.
Here you can breathe fresh and pure air nurtured by deep valleys and lofty mountains, discover relics left from the sky-mending legend, and listen to timeless stories of love and beauty. Like an ethereal poem or an elegant Chinese ink painting, the gorge invites you to linger and admire its beauty.
Composed of two V-shaped valleys, the left one stretches 7 kilometers and the right one 6 kilometers. It is a closed-loop scenic area for circular tours. The gorge ranges from 30 to 70 meters in width, with an altitude between 700 meters and 1,971 meters, and cliff walls standing 100 to 200 meters high. Facing green peaks on both sides, it boasts exquisite scenery and serves as an ideal retreat for leisure, vacation and summer escape. Numerous waterfalls dot the gorge, just like graceful maidens waiting for visitors to draw near.
