Niubei Mountain sits in Yingjing County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, bordering Luding County. A branch of the Erlang Mountain range, it forms the watershed of the Qingyi River and the Dadu River. Its summit stands 3,600 meters above sea level. A huge rock protruding from a cliff resembles an ox head, and its slender ridge looks like an ox's back, hence the name Niubei (Ox Back) Mountain.
With an altitude of around 3,660 meters, the mountain rises prominently amid surrounding hills. Its superior location makes it China's largest 360° panoramic viewing platform and a top photography destination. From here, you can overlook Niba Mountain, Wawu Mountain, Mount Emei, Jiajin Mountain, Siguniang Mountain and Erlang Mountain in the front, Gongga Snow Mountain on the side, and the Dadu River Grand Canyon at the back. Almost all renowned mountains of Sichuan are framed like delicate miniature landscapes.
