Dolma Canyon Scenic Area is situated in Gulu Township, Nagqu County on the Northern Xizang Plateau, 230 kilometers away from Lhasa and 11 kilometers off National Highway 109. Despite an altitude of about 4,700 meters, the canyon is lush with green trees and fragrant blossoms, presenting a vibrant landscape of lakes and mountains. Named after the heavenly goddess Dolma for its peerless beauty, the canyon runs roughly 15 kilometers from north to south.
The two sides of the canyon feature entirely different landscapes: one side is covered with perpetual snow, while the other is thick with verdant shrubs. Meltwater from the eternal snow on the mountains forms a clear mountain stream winding through the valley. Eagles soar above the snow-capped summits, while wild goats roam in groups on the eastern slopes. Himalayan marmots, hares, plateau pikas and other grassland animals also inhabit here. The blue sky, clear waters and snow peaks combine to form a unique plateau scenery.
The area also boasts distinctive landforms shaped by modern glacial erosion, with grotesque rock formations and numerous caves crafted by nature. Countless touching legends have been passed down about this magical landscape.
