Ruins of the Ancient Zhangzhung Kingdom
The ruins of the Zhangzhung Kingdom are located in Qiongzong, not far from Wenbu Township in Nyima County, Nagqu — the site of the ancient kingdom’s capital. Perched on a hillside, the massive stone complex has a history of around 1,600 years.
The Zhangzhung Kingdom once wielded great influence on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, where the Bon religion originated. It was conquered by the Tubo Dynasty in the 8th century. Today, the weathered ruins stand alongside the famous Dago Snow Mountain and Tangra Yumco Lake, attracting tourists and visitors to explore its history.
