Transportation Guide to Shangri-La
Air Travel
Shangri-La Airport is the closest airport to Meili Snow Mountain. Though relatively small, it operates regular flights between Zhongdian and Kunming, Chengdu as well as Lhasa. Most travelers first fly to Kunming from their departure cities and then take a connecting flight to Shangri-La. There are numerous flights linking major domestic cities to Kunming, and more routes between Kunming and Shangri-La are being launched gradually.
Note that the airport may be referred to as Diqing, Zhongdian or Shangri-La on different ticket booking platforms.

Highway Travel
Highway is the main means of transportation for visitors to Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Connecting Yunnan, Sichuan and Xizang, the prefecture boasts a convenient road network mainly composed of the Yunnan-Xizang Highway, Sichuan-Xizang Highway and Kangding-Xizang Highway. For scenic spots inaccessible by roads such as Bita Lake, horse riding is the only option.

Kunming → Shangri-La
Total distance: 720 km, passing through Chuxiong and Dali.
Take an express coach from Kunming Bus Station (No.60 Beijing Road, next to Jinhua Hotel) directly to Zhongdian. The trip takes around 12 hours with a fare of ¥145. Two daily departures: 06:00 and 18:00. Coaches to Zhongdian are also available at Kunming West Bus Station and South Bus Station.

- West Bus Station: Luxury coach, ¥197, departs at 09:00
- Huangtupo Station: Sleeper bus, ¥116, departures available between 15:00 and 19:00
Lijiang → Shangri-La
Total distance: around 187 km. 3 to 5 coaches run daily from 07:00 to 15:00, with a fare of ¥25.
Reminder: The highway between Lijiang and Zhongdian is under major renovation. Currently, vehicles have to take a long detour:
Lijiang → Qiaotou → Liren → Jinjiang → Shangjiang → Nixi → Shangri-La
The whole journey takes about 7 hours. It will be shortened to 3 hours once the road project is completed.
Dali → Shangri-La
Total distance: about 300 km. Mini coaches are available with a fare of ¥35.
Panzhihua (Sichuan) → Shangri-La
Total distance: roughly 470 km. Multiple daily coaches depart from Panzhihua (Jinjiang) Station for Zhongdian. Sleeper bus: ¥90; regular seat: ¥60.

Highways
Shangri-La → Deqin
Route & mileage: Shangri-La (81 km) → Benzilan (23 km) → Dongzhulin Monastery (44 km) → Baimang Snow Mountain (35 km) → Deqin
Four large coaches leave Zhongdian Bus Station for Deqin every morning at 07:20, 08:20, 09:20 and 12:00. The trip lasts 5 to 6 hours and the fare is ¥33. Travelers can have lunch in Benzilan halfway. The route features stunning views of Napa Lake, Jinsha River Grand Canyon, Benzilan, Dongzhulin Monastery and Baimang Snow Mountain.
The last coach back to Shangri-La from Deqin departs at 15:00.

Deqin → Mingyong Glacier & Xidang Village
Daily coaches run from Deqin Bus Station to Mingyong Glacier (passing by Feilai Temple). The ride takes 1 hour and costs ¥13. Coaches are also available to Xidang Village, the only gateway to Yubeng Village.

Flat fare of ¥5 for rides within the urban area; ¥15 to the airport.

Scenic spots in Shangri-La are widely scattered, and bus schedules are subject to change. Before heading out, please confirm bus availability and road conditions at local bus stations. If you plan to charter a vehicle, negotiate the price in advance.
