Fun Things to Do on Sijiao Island

Centered on the main Sijiao Island, the scenic area is celebrated for its continuous stretches of blue sea and golden sand. The main island alone boasts 14 high-quality beaches of varying sizes, among which Jihu Beach and Nanchangtu Beach stand out, each stretching over 2,000 meters long.

The scenic area features two major beaches, one to the north and one to the south. Nestled against hills and woodlands, they boast elegant shorelines, fine clean sand, and wide, gentle terrain. They rank as rare large-scale coastal bathing grounds in China and ideal venues for sand baths, sunbathing and marine sports.

Jihu Beach is hailed as "Beidaihe of the South" and "the Hawaii of China". Other breathtaking natural wonders include the legendary Three Gemstones on Huanglong Island, Liujingtan (the top sunrise viewing spot), Mount Dabei (a sacred Buddhist site), as well as Jian Mountain Sunrise, Moonlight over Jihu, Spirit Rat Playing with Waves, Flower Sedan and Jade Bride, Flag-Planting Scenic Overlook, Summit of Mount Dabei, Liujing Cliffs and Reefs, Windmills on Palace Mountain, Baijie Lighthouse, Turbulent Sword Gate Rapids, Flame Rock, Nose-Piercing Cave and Torpedo Cave. These marvelous natural landscapes together form vivid, picturesque scrolls.

Located in the core zone of the Shengsi Archipelago Scenic Area, this beach stretches 2,300 meters in length and 300 meters in width, making it the largest beach in East China, reputed as "Beidaihe of the South". Two small islets, the Inner Hill and Outer Hill, lie just offshore. The Inner Hill rises as a high terrace on the beach, home to wild squirrels and man-made caves chiseled into the rock faces. Visitors may climb the rock face to the flat hilltop, where a small pavilion offers sweeping panoramic views of blue sea and sky.

Compared with Nanchangtu Beach, Jihu Beach has softer, whiter and finer sand. Thanks to mature development, its coastal waters are cleaner. In contrast, Nanchangtu Beach is more remote, quieter and brimming with authentic local fishing village charm.

Take the local minibus bound for Wulong Township from Caiyuan Town (fare ¥2). A taxi ride costs ¥20 from Lizhushan Ferry Terminal and ¥10 from Caiyuan Town.

Family inns near Jihu Beach provide lodging and meals, and the beachfront serves distinctive Shengsi seafood barbecues.

Lying in the central bay on the southern side of main Sijiao Island, it is known as the "Sister Beach" alongside Jihu Beach, separated only by Hutou Hill Ridge. Nanchangtu Beach spans 2,750 meters long and 200 meters wide, consisting of three connected small beaches: Nanchangtu, Gaochangwan and Shizhu. At the junction of Nanchangtu and Gaochangwan, arched cliff rocks stand like stone gates, named the Big and Small Dragon Eye Stones. Several small offshore islets can be viewed from the shore.

The beach surface is clean, soft and creamy yellow, curving like a crescent moon embedded between blue waters and green hills. Tourist activities available here include sea bathing, beach football, wild-flavor barbecues and crab-hole digging (most entertainment facilities are closed off-season). Though less developed than Jihu Beach, it draws fewer visitors for a more relaxing experience.

No public buses run here. Taxis cost approximately ¥40 from Lizhushan Ferry Terminal, ¥30 from Caiyuan Town and ¥20 from Jihu Beach.
