What Are the Best Places to Visit in Rizhao?
As a coastal eco-tourism city, Rizhao is famous across the globe for its blue sky, clear sea and golden beaches. Boasting sound ecology, picturesque scenery and a pleasant climate, it is a rare summer resort along China’s coastline with a rich variety of tourist activities.
Leveraging its unique tourist resources, Rizhao has developed a great number of featured tourism projects:

Wanpingkou Scenic Area
Wanpingkou Scenic Area sits in the new urban district, at the eastern end of East Haiqu Road. It best embodies Rizhao’s iconic scenery of blue sky, blue sea and golden beaches.
It is bordered by Rizhao Coastal National Forest Park and Shanhaitian Resort to the north, the Botanical Garden and Cherry Garden of the new downtown to the west, and Rizhao Port and Lighthouse Scenic Area to the south.
Here you can go shelling and angling to embrace nature. Other activities include watching the sunrise over the sea, cruising on speedboats, swimming in the sea, playing beach volleyball and sea fishing.

Take Bus No.1, 5, 6, 8 or the North Coastal Tourist Line and get off at Wanpingkou Scenic Area.
Lighthouse Scenic Area
Lighthouse Scenic Area lies along the beautiful Rizhao coastline, at the eastern end of Huanghai First Road. It is adjacent to Rizhao Port in the south, faces the boundless Yellow Sea to the east, and connects with Wanpingkou (No.2 Bathing Beach) in the north. It gets its name from the towering navigation lighthouse on the shore.

Bus No.1 takes you directly to the scenic area.
The lighthouse is south of Wanpingkou. You can first take a bus to Wanpingkou and then walk south while enjoying coastal views.
Bus No.5 also stops here, passing the World Sailing Championships Base.
You may also take a sightseeing shuttle from Wanpingkou (20 yuan for a round trip) and stop to take photos at the sailing base.
Rizhao World Sailing Championships Base
The scenic sailing base is located in the sea area of Wanpingkou, covering a total area of 1.2 square kilometres, including 65 hectares of land and 41 hectares of water.
It was built to host the European Class Sailing Championship in 2005 and the International 470 Class World Sailing Championship in 2006.
Ticket: Free entry; 48 yuan per person for yacht tours on the sea.
Transport: Direct access by Bus No.5 and No.7.
Tide Tower
Standing south of Wanpingkou, Tide Tower is one of Rizhao’s city landmarks.
The tower is 24 metres high with an entirely transparent main body. An outward viewing platform is built in the middle, decorated with petal-shaped metal netting that looks like a blooming lotus flower. Part of the frame gradually narrows upward with transparent glass, with the whole sky serving as its backdrop.
Inside the tower are a café, restaurant, shopping hall and exhibition hall.

Coastal National Forest Park
Rizhao Coastal National Forest Park is located at the northern end of North Coastal Road, around 15 kilometres from the city centre, with a forest coverage rate of 73.5%.
Most landforms are tidal flat deposits of the Yellow Sea, featuring flat terrain: long from north to south, narrow from east to west, higher in the north and lower in the south. It has a 7-kilometre coastline, with an average intertidal zone width of 200 metres.
The park is divided into four zones: Forest Tourism Zone, Coastal Entertainment Zone, Sanatorium & Resort Zone and Tai Gong Culture Zone.
Attractions include an underwater shark aquarium, zoo, Tai Gong Memorial Hall, sea bathing beach and forest bathing area.
Recreational activities cover tandem bicycles, European carriages, sightseeing vehicles, water riding, beach buggies, motorboats, speedboats and trapeze shows.

Liujiawan Tidal Picking Park
Liujiawan Tidal Picking Park is situated in the middle section of South Coastal Road, 12 kilometres from downtown Rizhao. It boasts a 5.4-kilometre golden coastline, known as “Asia’s Best Golden Beach and China’s Top Tidal Picking Park”.
Ticket: 50 yuan; extra fees apply for the sand island bathing beach and golf course.
